Electronic Keyboard

Keyboard lessons are popular either individually or in a group. They are offered to pupils of all ages who are more interested in pupolar genres.

The Manchester Piano Room is equipped with 4 electronic keyboards and pupils who prefer to bring their own are encouraged to do so either for regular lessons or on a one off basis. As music technology develops at a fast pace every instrument is different although the basic technique is the same.

Electronic keyboards can be great fun in a group as they can form an ensemble or even an orchestra. They are also useful as a composition tool in GCSE composition projects.

Students usually enjoy a repertoire ranging from popular classics, rock music or music from films and musicals. Those aiming at grade exams tend to follow the syllabus of Rock School or Trinity Guildhall.

The keyboards are more affordable than accoustic pianos. They can be housed in a limited space and many are light enough to carry around. Although some pupils who start piano lessons tend to practice at home on a keyboard at least in the very early stages, they soon find out that electronic keyboards are very different instruments which require different skills and techniques and produce different genres of music.

It is important to note that it is easier for a pianist to master some keyboard skills than it is for a keyboard player to develop a sound piano technique. Digital pianos are now more useful for piano students although never a complete substitute to the accoustic piano.

With the advance of technology keyboards have become much more than mechanical instruments with limited expressive capabilities. When used skillfully they are capable of producing high quality musical performances and a range of genres, contemporary styles and timbres albeit very different from the accoustic piano.

As they advance in their studies keyboard players will enjoy experimenting with computer based productions where they combine their performing ability with musical knowledge acquired through the study of theory and composition.

The price structure of keyboard lessons is comparable to that of the piano and singing.
